About Sod Calculator

Sod Calculator is a free suite of tools built to answer one deceptively simple question: how much sod do I actually need? Anyone who has laid a lawn knows the frustration of guessing wrong — a wasted trip to the sod farm, or a stack of pallets slowly dying in the driveway. We built this site to make that guesswork unnecessary.

What we do

We turn a few measurements of your yard into the numbers that matter: how many rolls, slabs and pallets to order, how much topsoil and starter fertilizer to prep with, and what the whole project is likely to cost. Our tools work for any shape of lawn, in feet or meters, and run entirely in your browser with no sign-up.

Why our numbers are adjustable

Sod isn't standardized. A pallet from one farm covers 400 square feet; from another, 500. Roll and slab sizes vary just as much. Rather than pretend there's one universal figure, every calculator lets you enter your supplier's real coverage, so your result reflects what you're actually buying. We think honest, adjustable estimates beat confident-but-wrong ones.

A planning aid, not a quote

Our estimates are here to help you plan and budget. They're not a substitute for a written quote from a sod supplier or installer, and figures for cost, coverage and fertilizer rates vary with region, grass type, season and product. We always encourage confirming with your local supplier before you order.
